What is this Place?

It is clear that Americans love food. Collectively we are so enamored with concept of eating that monthly magazines dedicated to different food genres saturate our grocery stores, online communities center entirely around single food items (cupcakes for example!), and entire television networks show us how to make the quickest, trendiest, and most delicious recipes. With all of this information focused on food, it's easy to see how two causal cooks (that's us!)  might yearn for some way to sift through the chaos.

In effort to provide the structure that we yearned to impose upon our stacks of magazines, cook books, and recipes printed off of websites, we tagged the recipes that caught our eyes and began creating weekly menus to test their merit. The process of choosing new dishes each week surprisingly not only resulted in a stock pile of recipes, but also a variety of opinions (good and bad) about their content and our final products.

This website is our effort to share the knowledge that we have gained in the process of creating our menus and compiling recipes from multiple sources. At the beginning of each week we post our menu for the upcoming week. Most weeks we include stand-by favorites and leftovers mixed in with at least three new recipes. As the week progresses we post the recipes that accompany our menu, along with the opinions and hints that we gathered from the cooking process. We always cite where the recipes came from, not only to give credit to those who created them, but to also allow you to find them in print outside of the site.

We are by no means expert cooks or bakers, but we love to cook and definitely have opinions about what results from our hard work in the kitchen. We hope you will enjoy the journey along with us!

About Us

We currently share our lives in the great state of Vermont. Partners in amateur cooking adventures (and in life), here is a little more about each of us:

Corey: The brains behind the website, Corey deals with all things technical for 2EqualParts. In the kitchen, Corey has been known to do everything from wielding the power of a knife to prepare meat to whisking ingredients to create sauces. Although he was a vegetarian for a number of years, one of the central tenants that he currently operates under is "Mmmm...bacon." Corey appreciates recipes that not only tell you what to do, but also why you are doing it. For that reason, one of his favorite cooking magazines is Cook's Illustrated and he enjoys Alton Brown's Good Eats on the Food Network. Outside of the kitchen you will probably find Corey playing canine disc with his Border Collie Holly or gaming with a circle of friends.

Leslie:  Where Corey is technical, Leslie lends a bit of creativity to 2EqualParts. After college, Leslie moved to Vermont for graduate school and along with the move came an increased interest in cooking and creating in the kitchen. Although she enjoys cooking main dishes, her current passion is baking. Bread, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, if it is sweet, you will likely find Leslie covered in flour in the kitchen attempting a new recipe. One of her stand-by favorite sources for recipes is Martha Stewart, the queen of creativity in the kitchen. When she's not baking, Leslie is probably crafting (quilts, knitted hats, and more) and likely drinking coffee.
